Welcoming Spring

Following the spring equinox, days begin lasting longer and nights get shorter giving you more light hours to get things done.

Those extra hours of sun can be a major mood booster and destresser.

There is no better indicator for spring than birds chirping outside your window and seeing more of our feathered friends can even have a positive effect on our mental health.

The warmer temperature and plentiful food brings about more wildlife in the form of baby bunnies, ducklings and squirrels and who doesn’t love baby animals?!

Warmer temperatures means more time outside. Taking walks in nature slows your heart rate and makes you more relaxed but research indicates that spring actually has a special effect on our brains, sunny spring weather has been linked to heightening our moods and improving our memories. It is also linked to broadening our minds, leaving us more open to new information and creative thoughts.

Indoor pollutants from sources like cleaning products, some furniture and gas stoves pose a threat to our health and comfort and temperate weather makes it easier to get the fresh air you need. Open your windows and allow the breeze to ventilate your indoor space.

Spring is the time for plants to grow and flowers to bloom, providing us the most important environmental service of photosynthesis, reducing the carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and releasing more oxygen into our air. Having flowers in our homes makes us happy and can even reduce our pain and anxiety.

With spring comes a time to rejuvenate and regenerate and what better way than to spring clean your home. The clean up process can be incredibly enlivening rather than a tiresome chore. It can strengthen your immune system, decrease stress and depression, prevent illness, and reduce the risk of injury from slips, trips, bumps and falls in a cluttered home. Spring cleaning your home can bring you a greater sense of control and well-being.
